We are run entirely by volunteers.
Can you spare as few as 3 hours per year? We are a friendly team of volunteers, helping to keep the Maison Dieu, a major part of our heritage, open. We have many roles available:
- Stewarding
Maison Dieu Stewards are friendly and welcoming to visitors who uphold the high standards of the Maison Dieu Museum Trust and English Heritage. Each duty is for 3 hours : 2pm-5pm weekends and Bank Holidays. It is our policy that there are always at least 2 stewards on duty so you will never be expected to work alone. You will not be expected to commit to regular times but of course if you would like to do this, you will be welcome to do so. We have an easy and straightforward way of arranging duties by email and phone. A reminder is also sent to you by email so that you never need to worry about booking up a duty in advance. Many of our stewards are couples, so precious weekend afternoons can be spent together in a building they love. We work very much as a team and help each other when another member needs help. Full training is given and an experienced steward is on hand until volunteers are confident to open the museum themselves.
- Admin
There is quite a lot of admin involved in running a small charity – from organising printing of posters and flyers, to minute taking, to cataloguing artefacts. If you can give a few hours or be on an emergency register for help when we need you, you can make a great difference to the work of the Trust.
- Fundraising & Events
We need all sorts of help to raise funds for our little charity. New projects, education, and our everyday work all need to be funded. There are many duties that need to be covered : event planning, event stewarding, Mediæval costume characters, manning stalls, setting up & clearing away at events, transporting display boards, grant applications, and many more. Any time or help you can give will be very much appreciated.
